Are you afraid to Take-Off?

Birds sitting on a fence is a common sight in our daily lives. They sit for a while and then TAKE OFF..When they take off they seem to inevitablely know which direction to fly in. Its an amazing sight to see how easily they take-off!

Do you remember a time when you sat on the fence afraid to move forward, when deep within you knew the answer.. afraid to choose between two things, two paths, two people..

– When the comfort of what you have and know was way more appealing than choosing to forge into the unknown..
– When you would not have to face the consequence of making a decision
– When no one would blame you for taking a risk
– When you would not have to regret the decision you made..
– When you would not have to experience the sting that you felt last time when you jumped off the fence..
– When you would not have to take on new responsibilities

And thus the inability to jump off the fence and sit there forever was the best path forward..-So many of us are ready to give up on:
– That job we really want to have to the comfort of the familiar one that does not light our soul,
– that venture that we have dreamt of starting to the familiar 9 – 5,
– the allure of a new relation to the existing one that drains us,
– asking somebody out to the fear of a simple no,
– starting a new exercise regime to watching the live telecast of the cake boss show,
– making a call to the friend we’ve wanted to for years to the fear of having to explain ourselves,
– reaching out for help because we are afraid of being ridiculed.

All this, just because we are unable to take-off from the fence! The birds either sense a possible danger, see some food to pick on or other birds and this causes them to take off. There may be no visible ‘danger’ lurking around your fence to force you to take action or the ‘food’ you see may not be enticing enough to take-off. But you can learn from the birds…Take the leap, jump of the fence and fly..Those birds that jumped off the fence- on closer observation, you may see that they do not always know where they are going but they quickly course correct to fly in the right direction of their destination..

And if you made a mistake in choosing the direction, you can course correct. Yes, there will be times when you realize
– you shouldn’t have jumped off the fence
– you are headed in the wrong direction,
– that you flew straight into an obstacle,
but you learn from each of these flights…your sense of direction and ability to assess risks and weigh outcomes improves with every flight you take and soon you will soar in the right direction! Don’t be paralyzed by the fear of flying in the wrong direction and sit on the fence forever (or until the cat gets you!)

GET OFF THE FENCE and Fly FIRST and then course CORRECT as needed.

Have you jumped off the fence? Would love to hear how you did it…
